Arches & Sage — Lower Parel Apartment
About this project
This Lower Parel home leans classical where most Mumbai apartments go minimal. Wardrobes are arched and shaker-panelled in a soft ivory, set against sage-green walls, with antique-brass cup handles and a flush concealed door detailed to disappear into the wall. The marble flooring carries inset dark dots at the joints — a small, deliberate piece of detailing that is far more work than a plain floor and is exactly the kind of thing an in-house joinery shop makes affordable.
The pooja room is the centrepiece. A nested pair of arches is finished in fluted panelling, lit with concealed cove lighting that washes down the flutes, with glass display shelves either side and a run of concealed storage below. Four brass pendants drop from a recessed circular ceiling detail. Every element here — the arch profiles, the fluting, the shelving, the base units — was manufactured to drawing rather than bought in.
The kitchen is the counterpoint: a parallel galley in matte grey handleless shutters with a white solid-surface counter, under-cabinet lighting, a chimney over an induction hob, and a slim breakfast ledge that turns a circulation space into somewhere to sit. Patterned encaustic-style floor tiles give the room its character, and a louvred timber screen closes off the service area.
Design style: Classical contemporary — arches, fluted panelling and shaker detailing in a muted sage and ivory palette
